Ways to Pay for Your Dyslexia Assessment

The cost of an assessment is one thing. How you pay for it is another, and it is a fair question to ask before you book. Most people pay for a private assessment themselves. There are a few routes that can ease the cost, and we are always happy to talk them through.

If you are still weighing up the cost itself, our guide to how much a dyslexia assessment costs sets out our prices in full.

How you can pay?

We keep payment simple. You can pay by card, or by bank transfer, whichever suits you best. We will send clear details once your assessment is booked, so there is never any guesswork. If anything is unclear, you only need to ask.

Spreading the cost

We know that an assessment is a meaningful outlay for many families. For that reason, we are happy to offer a payment plan. This lets you spread the cost into smaller instalments, rather than paying it all in one go. Just let us know at the enquiry stage, and we will agree a plan that works for you.

Help from an employer, school or college

You do not always have to cover the cost alone. Some employers will fund an assessment for a member of staff, particularly where it supports someone at work. It is well worth asking your manager or HR team. Schools and colleges occasionally fund assessments too, especially where exam access arrangements are involved. A quick conversation with the SENCo is a sensible first step.

Funding if you are heading to university

University students have an extra route worth knowing about. A diagnostic report is often the first step towards applying for the Disabled Students' Allowance, known as DSA. The allowance itself supports you once you are studying, rather than paying for the assessment. That said, some universities offer a bursary that can help with the cost of the assessment, so it is worth contacting your university's disability or student support team.

Bursaries and other support

A little extra help is sometimes available from charities and dyslexia organisations. The British Dyslexia Association, for example, has at times offered assessment bursaries, subject to their available funding. These schemes come and go, so it is always worth a quick search when cost is a barrier.
